Maybe your bathroom needs a glass shower door that doesn’t come in a standard size. Maybe you’ve got a huge empty wall that’s asking for a mirror. Or you’re trying to divide your loft without losing all that lovely natural light.
Amber Glass makes and installs custom glass in DUMBO, Brooklyn. We work on shower doors, mirrors, and other glass features for homes of different sizes.
You don’t need to figure out the measurements yourself. Tell us what you’re planning, send a picture if you have one, and we’ll help you choose what works.

Custom and Frameless Shower Doors in DUMBO
Some bathrooms in DUMBO are surprisingly large. Others are tucked into the strangest corners of old buildings.
And neither guarantees that a standard shower door will fit.
We make custom shower doors in DUMBO based on the actual opening. That means the glass is measured for your bathroom, not pulled off a shelf because the size looks close enough.
Close enough and glass don’t get along very well.
Frameless Shower Doors
Frameless shower doors are a good option if you want the bathroom to feel open.
There’s no thick metal frame around the glass. You get a clear view of the shower and the tile behind it.
This looks especially nice in bathrooms with large tiles or simple finishes.
We use tempered safety glass, usually 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch thick for frameless enclosures. The right option depends on the design.
If you’re looking for frameless shower doors in DUMBO, there are a few styles to consider.
A hinged door swings open. It works well when there’s enough space outside the shower.
A sliding door moves sideways, so you don’t need room for a door to swing into the bathroom.
And sometimes you don’t need a door at all.
A fixed glass panel can work for an open walk-in shower. It blocks splashes while leaving an open entrance.
But we’ll check the layout first. A beautiful glass screen isn’t much help if the water ends up all over the floor.
What About Smaller Bathrooms?
Small bathrooms can be tricky.
The shower might sit right beside the sink. Or the toilet leaves almost no space for a swinging door.
In those cases, a sliding system or a smaller hinged door may work better.
We’ll check the space before recommending anything.
No point ordering a lovely glass door if you have to climb over the toilet to open it.
Custom Mirrors for DUMBO Apartments and Lofts
Here’s a common mirror problem.
You find one you love online. It’s the right style, the right color, everything.
Then it arrives.
Too small.
Or slightly too wide.
Or it looks ridiculous above your bathroom vanity.
We make custom mirrors in DUMBO so you don’t have to work around those problems.
You choose the size and shape, and we make the mirror to fit your wall.
Bathroom Mirrors
A custom bathroom mirror can be useful when your vanity is wider than a standard mirror.
Maybe you want one long mirror above two sinks.
Or you’ve got a narrow space between a cabinet and the wall.
We can make the mirror for that opening.
You can keep it rectangular or choose a different shape.
Round mirrors are popular. Arched mirrors look nice, too.
And if you want something simple, a large mirror with polished edges is hard to get wrong.
We also offer beveled edges, which have a small angled border.
A little detail. Nothing too dramatic.
Mirrors for Loft Spaces
DUMBO is known for its loft apartments, and some have very large walls.
A regular store-bought mirror can look a bit lost on one of those.
A large custom mirror might work better.
You can use it in an entryway or bedroom. It can also look great in a home gym.
And if you have a narrow hallway, a mirror can help make the space feel less closed in.
We can discuss the size and mounting method based on the wall.
Because a large mirror is heavy.
Very heavy, sometimes.
Not something you want hanging from a couple of screws you found in a drawer.
Interior Glass Walls and Railings
Living in a loft is great until you realize there aren’t enough walls.
You have all this open space, which is lovely.
But now your office is in your living room. Your bedroom might be right beside it. And everyone can see everything.
A glass partition can help.
Glass Partitions for Open Rooms
We make interior glass partitions that can divide a room without blocking all the light.
For example, you might want to create a separate home office.
A glass wall lets you close off the space while keeping it connected to the rest of the apartment.
You can choose clear glass if you want an open view.
Or frosted glass if you need a little privacy.
And if you want a door, we can discuss a glass door system as part of the design.
Just remember that not every glass partition is soundproof.
If you’re trying to keep noise out of your office, we’ll need to look at the right type of system.
Because a beautiful glass wall won’t make your neighbor’s dog any quieter.
Unfortunately.
Glass Railings
We also offer glass railings for suitable residential projects.
They can work well around stairs or raised indoor areas where you don’t want a traditional railing blocking the view.
Glass railings look especially nice in open lofts.
But they’re not the same as regular glass panels.
Railings have to meet safety requirements. The glass and mounting system must be designed for the space.
So we check the structure and project details before recommending a railing.
This isn’t a DIY weekend project.
And frankly, some things shouldn’t be.
Choosing the Glass and Hardware
There are more glass options than just clear.
Not an endless number, thankfully. But enough to give you some choice.
Clear glass is the usual option for shower doors. It works with almost any bathroom.
Low-iron glass is clearer than standard glass. It has less of that slight green tint around the edges.
If you’ve got white tile or light-colored stone, you might prefer it.
Frosted glass gives you more privacy.
It’s useful for shower enclosures and interior partitions where you don’t want a completely clear view.
Textured glass is another option. It lets light through while making the view less clear.
We also work with different colors of glass for certain interior projects.
Then there are the edges.
A polished edge is smooth and simple.
A beveled edge has a small angled finish that catches the light.
For shower doors, you’ll also need hardware.
Chrome is a common choice. Matte black looks great in bathrooms with white tile.
Brushed nickel is softer. Brass works nicely with warmer colors.
If you’re not sure, look at the fixtures you already have.
Your faucet is usually a pretty good place to start.
And if you’ve got a designer helping with the renovation, we can go over the finishes with them.
Measuring Glass in DUMBO Can Get Interesting
Old factory buildings weren’t designed with modern bathrooms in mind.
A lot of DUMBO’s residential buildings started life as warehouses or industrial spaces.
Now they have beautiful apartments inside.
But some of the original building quirks are still there.
Uneven walls. Strange corners. Floors that aren’t perfectly level.
Even newer renovations can have these problems.
That’s why we measure the space before making the glass.
For shower doors, we’ll check the finished opening and where the hinges or other hardware can go.
For mirrors, we’ll measure the wall and look at anything that might get in the way.
Light fixtures are a common one.
And if you’re ordering a large glass panel, we’ll also need to check how it gets into the apartment.
This part is easy to forget.
A mirror might fit perfectly on your bedroom wall.
Great.
But will it fit inside the elevator?
Will it turn around the corner in the hallway?
Will it make it through your apartment door?
All good questions.
We’d rather answer them before the glass arrives.
When Should We Measure?
If you’re renovating a bathroom, final shower measurements usually happen after the tile is installed.
Why?
Because tile changes the opening size.
Even a small difference can cause problems with the glass.
And tempered glass can’t be cut smaller after it’s made.
For large mirrors or glass partitions, we’ll also check when the surrounding work is finished.
The goal is to measure the space as it will actually be when the glass is installed.
Not how it looked three weeks ago.
Working With a Designer or Contractor?
If you’re renovating a DUMBO apartment, there’s a good chance you’re already working with a contractor.
Maybe an interior designer, too.
We can coordinate the glass part with them.
For example, your designer might have chosen a specific glass finish for the bathroom.
Or your contractor needs to know where the shower door hinges will go.
We can discuss those details before the glass is made.
And if something in the design won’t work, we’d rather say so early.
Much better than discovering the problem after the tile is finished.
What About Building Rules?
Some DUMBO condo buildings have rules for renovation work.
You might need a certificate of insurance before workers can enter.
There may also be set times for deliveries or use of the service elevator.
And if you’re bringing in a very large mirror, building access becomes even more important.
Tell us about any requirements when you contact us.
We can coordinate the installation details with your building management.
A glass panel stuck in the lobby because nobody reserved the elevator?
Let’s avoid that.
Want to See Real Custom Glass Projects?
Photos are useful. Especially for glass.
A shower door might look simple in a drawing, but the finished result can look quite different once it’s installed.
The same goes for mirrors and glass partitions.
You can browse examples of our work on the Amber Glass website.
Look at the different glass layouts.
See how the panels meet the walls. Pay attention to the hardware.
And if you find something you like, save the picture.
Maybe you love the mirror shape in one project but prefer the shower design in another.
That’s fine.
You don’t need to copy one bathroom exactly.
We can help you choose parts of the design that make sense for your space.
One thing worth mentioning: we won’t pretend that every project photo comes from DUMBO.
If we feature a local installation, it should be an actual job completed in the neighborhood.
No random loft photos labeled “DUMBO project” just because there’s exposed brick in the background.
That’s not how it works.
How Custom Glass Installation Works
The process is pretty straightforward.
You tell us what you need. We measure the space. Then we make and install the glass.
There are a few steps in between, of course.
First, Tell Us About the Project
Maybe you’re replacing a shower door.
Maybe you want a large bathroom mirror.
Or you’re renovating a loft and need several glass pieces.
Send us photos if you have them.
We’ll talk about the options and arrange a measurement.
We Measure Everything
We’ll check the dimensions and look at the installation area.
For a shower door, that means checking the opening and the nearby fixtures.
For a mirror, we’ll look at the wall and how the glass should be mounted.
And for larger projects, we’ll check access to the apartment.
Because getting the glass through the building is part of the job, too.
You Approve the Design
Before fabrication, we’ll confirm the details.
You’ll choose the glass type and finish.
For shower doors, we’ll also confirm the hardware.
The price depends on the size and type of glass, along with the installation work.
A small mirror won’t cost the same as a large glass partition.
We’ll prepare an estimate based on the actual project.
No random numbers pulled from nowhere.
We Install the Glass
Once the glass is ready, we’ll arrange installation.
Our team will fit the glass and check that everything is secure.
For shower doors, we’ll also check that the door opens and closes properly.
Then we’ll explain how to clean and care for the glass.
Nothing complicated.
Custom Glass Installation in DUMBO and Nearby Brooklyn Areas
We work on residential glass projects in DUMBO, including properties around Washington Street and Water Street.
We also serve homes near Plymouth Street and Front Street.
The neighborhood has a mix of converted loft buildings and newer condos.
Some apartments have high ceilings and wide open spaces. Others have smaller bathrooms tucked into older floor plans.
Both can need custom glass.
We also handle projects in nearby Brooklyn neighborhoods, subject to scheduling confirmation.
If you’re in Brooklyn Heights or Vinegar Hill, send us your address.
The same goes for other parts of Brooklyn.
We’ll confirm whether we can take on the project and discuss the next steps.

Understandable.
Send us a few details about your space. We’ll measure it, discuss the options, and help you choose the glass.
